Annual "Pack the Patrol Car" Event

Davis PD is gearing up for its seventh annual  “Pack the Patrol Car” fundraiser school supply drive, in which local residents are asked to donate backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need.

Beginning Monday, July 7th and continuing through Friday, August 8th, donations may be dropped off at Davis Police Department, 2600 Fifth Street, between the hours of 9:30 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and everyother Friday.  Please drop backpacks off in the red designated collection container located just inside the Davis Police Department lobby.

"We are hoping the Davis community will come forward to help those families in need, as they have so generously done in the past.”  “It is such a simple gift that means so much to students of all ages, from elementary school to high school,” said Petersen.

Donors are asked to purchase a backpack and fill it with the following basic supplies:  One three-ring binder, one package of filler paper, one package of five-tab insert dividers, two spiral notebooks, two pocket folders, a pencil pouch, 12-pack of No. 2 pencils (mechanical or regular), 12-pack of Crayola basic colored pencils, 24 pack of Crayola basic color crayons, erasers, three-pack of glue sticks, a ruler, scissors (small or medium size), highlighters, a calculator, small pencil sharpener and one package of pens (blue or black).

Patrol officers will deliver the filled backpacks to the elementary, junior high and high schools in their beats prior to the start of the school year, Petersen said.  School staff members will then determine the families most in need and present the students with their new backpacks.  “The look on the children’s faces when they receive their new backpack filled with supplies is priceless. They are so appreciative,” said Petersen.
