Pond cleanup day:
Importance of this position: The City of Davis stormwater detention/ habitat basins function to reduce flooding, clean stormwater, and provide important wetlands habitat. During the winter and spring, trash such as cans, bottles, balls, and food wrappers get washed off the streets and into the basins. As a pond clean-up volunteer, you’ll protect, enhance, and help increase awareness about the drainage ponds’ function and the wildlife that use them.
Qualifications: Desire to learn about the stormwater basins and what wildlife species inhabit them. Ability to traverse uneven terrain through tall vegetation with a litter stick and trash bag.
- Collect and deposit trash into bags and carry them up to the staging area.
Training provided: Meet with program staff to discuss setting and hazards.
Tools/supplies needed: Bring your own sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves. We suggest you also bring sun protection, binoculars, a bird guide, and a desire to learn while you help. Litter sticks, trash/ recycling bags, and a snack will be provided.
Time commitment: The clean up day activities typically run three hours. However, you are welcome to participate more or less as available.
