City of Davis Begins Community Host Program

The City of Davis has begun a new program which utilizes community volunteers to provide a friendly face for our downtown community, creating a warm, vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for visitors, workers and business owners. The Hosts will be on foot throughout the downtown core area of Davis to promote downtown Davis as an exciting, friendly and safe shopping, dining and cultural destination.  Hosts can help visitors to area shops, restaurants, cultural venues and historic sites while answering questions and handing out the Downtown Map & Guide.

In addition to providing a service to the community, they will also provide a service to the Police Department by acting as “eyes and ears” to help address nuisance behavior, while reporting and documenting graffiti, deterring aggressive panhandling, deterring illegal bicycle and skateboarding on sidewalks, providing bike education and safety information to the public, and deterring public drinking and intoxication.

Interested Hosts are asked to volunteer for 3 to 6 hour shifts during peak times of the day on both weekends and week days. They will also be asked to assist during special events downtown such as, the Halloween parade, Tree Lighting ceremony and the Picnic Day Parade.

Orientation meetings will be held in late November.
