On the evening February 7, 2012, Davis Police Officers were dispatched to South Davis for two separate robberies involving a knife. Due to a speedy and coordinated response, officers were able to capture and arrest both suspects involved.
At approximately 7:58 PM, Davis Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 1540 Valdora Drive (Sorrento Apartments) for a robbery that had just occurred. The victim (20 year old male resident of Davis) stated he was robbed by two Hispanic males. The suspects confronted the victim in front of the apartment complex, pushed him, and demanded his property. One of the suspects threatened the victim with a knife. The victim fled and the suspects left without acquiring any property.
Within minutes, a second victim (21 year old male resident of Davis) reported he was just robbed in the area of 1659 Drew Circle while walking in the apartment complex. 1659 Drew Circle is located within two blocks of where the previous incident took place. The victim stated he was approached by two Hispanic males who ordered him to surrender his property. One of the males produced a knife in a threatening manner. The victim surrendered his wallet, cell phone, keys, and other personal items and the suspects fled on foot with his property.
Davis Police Officers responding to the area spotted two suspects who matched the physical description provided by the victims. After a short foot chase, officers arrested both subjects in the area of 1515 Valdora. One suspect is a 16 year old male out of Woodland and is believed to be the one wielding the knife. Because of his age, his name is not being released. He was arrested on robbery charges, running from police officers and was lodged at Yolo County Juvenile Hall. Arrested with the juvenile was 20 year old Joe Manuel Michel for obstructing police officers (148(a) (1) California Penal Code), providing police officers with false information (148.9(a) California Penal Code), and for two outstanding felony warrants. Michel was lodged at the Yolo County Jail. Officers continue their investigation into the degree of Michel’s involvement in these crimes.
